Yes, just as kids and grand-kids head back to the classroom, we too head back to our regular monthly routines of Guild meetings, Slow Quilting, Sew Zoom and other quilting events. Though some of us keep busy sewing year round, no doubt there are some (like me) that see the advent of fall as a signal to head back to the sewing room, planning for this year’s quilting projects and taking part once again in quilting events.

About fifty members made it to the first meeting of the quilting year, despite the patches of fog and rain along the way. To welcome everyone back, a Meet and Greet was a great kick off to the new season, followed by the business meeting and of course, Sew and Tell. Check out our Flickr album here for the full suite of member projects shared at the meeting.

Saturday’s weather doesn’t look very positive at this point so it is surely no surprise that Pillowcase Day has been rescheduled. On Monday, the 18th, you can head to Gow’s Home Hardware in Bridgewater if you’d like to pick up some kits. However, the October meeting will be the place to drop off your freshly made pillowcases for the IWK – a great cause. Hmm – the weekend wind and rain might just be the perfect time to raid your stash to see how many pillowcases you can create before we meet in October. Be sure to check the website calendar for details on pillowcase kit pick up and also the link to information on making pillowcases.

Your preview of everything happening this month can be found on the September calendar here . We are now using our calendar to promote any quilting-related local events, so if you have information to share on an upcoming show or exhibit, send them my way at communications@mahonebayquiltersguild.com

Don’t forget the Global Quilt Connections event, scheduled for September 23rd and 24th. Check out the scheduled presenters – there is quite a broad array of techniques on offer. For those who missed the widely-praised Melissa Marginet workshop last year, she will be presenting on day two of this event and sharing tips on quilting with your walking foot, all at no cost to you and from the comfort of your own home. Worth checking out – as are the other presentations! Web links will be shared with members before the event.

Our next meeting is scheduled for Monday, October 2nd at the usual place and time. See you there!
