What’s not to love about February!  OK, OK, besides the weather! This is the month that brings us Valentine’s Day to remind us how much we care about friends and family.  February is also the month when we see that first – very early – glimmer of spring. Days become longer – hey, it’s still light at 5 pm and we know, with some certainty, that warmer days are right around the corner – well, almost. That’s a good start. The anticipation of spring gets me moving from my winter slump and quilting ideas start to flow.

Our February meeting was a hit – 50 members of the Guild joined us on Zoom. Our guest speaker may have inspired so many of you to join in. If you weren’t able to be there, you missed an interesting program. Andrea Tsang Jackson of Third Story Workshop, is a textile artist, quilt designer, author and educator. Trained as an architect, Andrea brings a unique perspective to quilting through her use of colour and design. You may know her through her tenure as the 2017 artist in residence at Pier 21 or through her series of Gemology quilts.

Andrea’s work goes way beyond that, with innovative approaches to patchwork, paper piecing and improv design and projects that go well beyond the quilting realm – even to a parking garage! To find out more, take a stroll through her website here.

The Sew and Share was impressive as usual. The fun machine quilting by Pam W. comes from our January workshop with Cristina Arcenegui Bono.

February may be a short month, but for the Guild, this month is jam packed with events. There are seven more Zoom group sessions this month, including various Sew Alongs and Slow Quilting. If you’re not already taking part, check here for the schedule. There is always room for more.

The main event this month is lined up for Saturday, February 26 from 9:30 to 4:00 – the UFO Zoom Workshop. Feel free to join in any time through the day for a chance to quilt with other Guild members, pick up some tips, some project ideas and best of all – a chance to win some prizes! March is looming – only 20 days away. Don’t forget Cuddle Quilt Day on March 26. Check out the details here – hopefully, you are already making progress on the quilts you want to contribute. Don’t forget – help with batting, backing or quilting is just an email away. If you are looking for ideas, check out this piece from our February Sew and Share. What a great way to use up those leftover batik strips. You will find a litte help to make this one here.
