Beach Bracelets made by Peggy A.

Another quilting year has zoomed right past us (excuse the pun)!

In fact, it has been over one full calendar year since we resorted to Zoom as our replacement for in-person meetings and it has allowed our Guild to stay connected and to continue sharing our quilting experiences during a challenging time. Nonetheless, everyone is waiting with tightly crossed fingers, hoping that we will be able to get together in person in the fall.

Dear Jane by Janet S.

The last meeting of the year was held June 7th – our Annual General meeting.  Please check your newsletter to read this year’s annual reports.  Please be sure to check the Album to enjoy the full set of quilts in this month’s Sew and Tell. It’s really too bad that the Flickr album can’t capture the stories behind each of the wonderful items on display.

If you weren’t able to attend the meeting, there are a few things you should note as we head into summer – these will also be added to the Calendar as reference:

  • Sew Zoom sessions will continue all summer long – every Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. It’s not too late for Guild members to join in – send an email to SewZoomQuilting@gmail.com to register and find out the details.
  • Slow Quilting will also continue, every second Monday at 2:00 p.m. starting from June 14 – look for the email with Zoom coordinates
  • Sew and Tell – please continue to send photos of your projects to Barb for Sew and Tell all summer long – eye candy for all of us during the summer months!
  • Mark your calendar for Saturday, July 31 (rain date: August 1) for our first Outdoor Quilt Day – a day to celebrate quilts in the great outdoors in Nova Scotia. Quilters and quilt owners are encouraged to hang a quilt – or maybe more than one – somewhere outside to mark the occasion. Take a photo and send to Barb.  Impress the neighbours and passers-by. Details will be forthcoming.

Quilt projects are already being planned for the fall – first up is a One Block Wonder workshop. If you’re interested in this one, check out the Calendar for details. On June 18, Jan S. will offer a tutorial on fabric choice, guiding you through what to look for – and what to choose – for a successful One Block Wonder. If you’re interested in tackling this project, this is a session you won’t want to miss. The two-day workshop will take place in early fall – it’s a bargain for Guild members and a quilt that is on many quilter bucket lists.

A new Block of the Month is coming our way this fall – Tara L. has a unique nautical quilt, her own design, that she will be sharing with Guild members. You can register any time at gullsnestquilts@yahoo.com

Don’t forget to renew your membership by the deadline of June 30th. If you’re not a Guild member already, please join us.  You can find details here.

Have a great summer. Happy quilting!
