May 2014 Meeting

May'14-36

Linda Naugler's piece using hand and machine stitching and techniques she learned from an online course by  Carol Ann Waugh

Where to start? One word to describe the May meeting – colourful? Maybe – exciting? Maybe – inspiring? How about all three? Between show and tell and Tina's trunk show it was quite the evening.

May'14-57TB

Tina Belding brought a wonderful trunk load of quilts, bags, clothing and much more to share with us.

May'14-68TB

Tina's quilt "Jewelled Diamonds" (similar to this one but much bigger) was chosen to be the "festival quilt" at the Internation Quilt Festival in Houston last year, a huge honour. Images of that quilt can be found on festival bags, t-shirts and the cover of the program. Congratulations Tina!

Thanks and congratulations to everyone who brought quilts, wallhangings etc to share and to Tina who must have had a van load! It was quite the night! Be sure and visit our Flickr page here to see all the rest of the quilts, the show and tell and the trunk show, there were alot so take the time to enjoy!

May'14-33

Sandy T's quilt made using leftovers from the Heather Stewart workshop on colour. Be sure and see the other quilts Sandy made from her leftovers on our Flickr page. This one has over 3,000 1 1/2" squares!

May'14-23

Nancy's quilt top made using a pattern by Gerri Robinson, which was in an older issue of McCall's Quilting magazine.

As well as all that we did have a meeting. There were updates on the quilt show (October 3-5, 2014) at the Blockhouse Firehall. Michele is re-designing and sewing the car quilt and needs about 30 – 12" blocks, colourful would be great but whatever you can donate would be very much appreciated. Please bring them to the June meeting.

May'14-13

It is always so nice to see workshop projects come in to a show and tell. This one by Susan was from the Ana Buzzalino workshop on Simple Landscapes.

May'14-9

And this quilt made by Debbie which was started in a Heather Stewart workshop Fireside Log Cabin. Several of these quilts have come in completed and each one was so different. Can't wait to see more.

The Kaffe Fasset lecture tickets are all sold out. There was not enough interest in renting a bus so we will do our best to facilitate car pollong. More about that in July to those who are going.

The workshop committee has great plans for the fall. Debbie spoke about a few with Anita Zobens coming from Ontario with her Cottonmill Threadworks. To see more about the threads she carries visit her website at Cottonmill Threadworks Anita is the Canadian distributor for Superior Threads. She will be doing workshops as well as having her "Open Thread Bar".

Plans are underway for our end of the year Pot Luck Dinner and our AGM. The date is set for Monday June 2, 6pm – but do come early and help set up!
