Hello to the last days of summer and to those crisp mornings and evenings that are getting us ready for  Fall. For many, this is a favourite time of year. That is certainly true for me. After the long lazy days of late summer, September is a wake up call – back to school, back to regular routines, and back to catching up with quilting friends and taking part in all those fall quilting activities (Yay!).

This will be a busy month. You should have received your Newsletter today and it is chock full of info on our first meeting of  the year, new library acquisitions, other news, upcoming events and of course, our main event this month – A World of Colour, our three-day quilt show showcasing about 140 quilts!  Add to that our regular Slow Quilting and Sew Zoom sessions as well as a new session of Global Quilt Connections, and the line up for this month should keep us busy. Be sure to check the Calendar to keep on top of upcoming events.

Our first meeting of the year, in person, is next Monday, September 12th at Trinity United. As usual, doors open at 6:30 pm for a 7:00 pm start and please bring your Show and Share items. You are in for a treat with the Program. New member Rita Solkin will share part of her antique quilt collection, which spans from 1800 to the 1970s and beyond. Can’t wait

The Fat Quarter draw this month is a hark back to the past – bring an FQ in a traditional print, like a floral, or Thimbleberries-style fabric. Am I dating myself when I say that I still have Thimbleberries in my fabric stash? Do you?

Don’t forget to bring in your completed Challenge Quilts so they too can be readied for the show. Friday’s deadline for the items you want to sell in the Quilt Show Boutique is looming. You have been sent the link to register your items – the boutique is bound to be a popular spot, but first step is to let the boutique team know what you would like to offer for sale. Contact Elizabeth T. if you have any questions.

Have you sold your Raffle Tickets? Be sure to bring raffle tickets and/or raffle money, too. Some lucky person soon will be the proud owner of this year’s lovely raffle quilt, with the draw just weeks away.

Raffle Quilt
The 2022 Raffle Quilt: Rolling Waves, pieced by Jill Green, machine quilted by Colleen Paton. Design by Jane Koelker which appeared in Quilting Daily as a free pattern.

You’ll notice in the Newsletter that we have a few vacant spots on the Executive – the Vice-President, Secretary and Workshop Chair. This is the team that keeps the Guild going, managing the events and activities that mean so much to all of us. Please consider whether you might get involved as part of the team – NO EXPERIENCE NEEDED!

So, gather your ‘stuff’, mark your calendar for the 12th, and we’ll see you there!
