October 2016 Meeting

By 4 October 2016Meetings

Another great turnout for our October 2016 meeting. Thanks to VP Pam Wells for filling in for President Christine Bell who is away. The quilt show is over for another 2 years but it will be a few weeks before the final reports are in. Many, many thanks to so many volunteers who helped in so many ways. Thanks for everything, it was a resounding success!

Oct.'16-29

French Braid by Debra Howard, one of the many quilts in Ann Scott's collection.

We had another wonderful show and tell and Ann Scott gave us a wonderful trunk show of her collection of quilts. Many were made by Debra Howard of Quilts By The Bay. You can see more of Debra's quilts here. You can see more of Ann's collection that she shared with us here on our Flickr page here. As our Guild year gets underway, plans are being made for workshops and other events. The Father Christmas Festival will be here in Mahone Bay the last weekend in November and the first weekend of December. The Guild has once again been asked to decorate the Welcome Centre with our Christmas quilts. It is always such a nice show of our festive creations.

Oct.'16-05

The Seaside Stitchers share their latest Bee Challenge, to make "something larger than a pillow" using the Drunkard's Path block (s). I think they did a great job, love the variety!

Oct.'16-06

Laurie Swim shared her latest panel Uphill for her quilt Hope and Survival which is a memorial quilt for the 100th anniversary (2017) of the Halifax Explosion. Uphill depicts a young Barbara Orr who survived the explosion. The background fabric was snow dyed, the piece was machine appliqued and machine quilted as well as hand painted. Laurie is also working on a children's book about the explosion and using her quilt images for the illustrations. We have been so lucky to see this amazing quilt come together and many of us have helped with some stitching. You can read more about Laurie's project here.

Be sure and check the links to the right for information about up and coming workshops and events. Mark your calendar for our November 7th meeting. See you there!
