Cuddle Quilt Day 2015

20CG15

Well, we finally had a beautiful day to gather at the church hall and make some cuddle quilts for local charities. Twice we had to cancel because of weather and once for a funeral. Many Guild members and friends came to stitch, sew, tie and quilt quilts of all sizes. We have a super organizing committee of Valerie, Sheila and Leverne, their organizing skills are terrific and everything was set up and ready to go before 9 am.

The hall is set with stations for cutting backing and batting, sewing machines are brought in to sew the quilt sandwiches together, then the quilts get turned then back to the sewing machine to be top stitched, next step is the tieing or machine quilting. Lastly a label is ironed on and then the quilts go into the church to be viewed by our quilters and then the congregation on Sunday. From what I have heard the minister gave a wonderful sermon all based on the quilts.

Many thanks to all who came out to help, those who brought soups and chili, rolls, biscuits, cookies and cake. The tea and coffee was always ready and the hall was filled with lots of chatter.

We will have well over 100 quilts to donate to Harbour House, Blankets of Love, the NICU at the IWK Hospital, the Veterans Unit at Fisherman's Memorial Hospital, Ronald MacDonald House and several local nursing homes.

We will continue working on these quilts to get ready for our next Cuddle Quilt Day, the last Saturday of January, 2016! Let's hope the weather cooperates!
