The New Year Begins

By 13 September 2014Meetings, Members, Quilt Show

Sept'14-13

Here we are again, another new year for the Mahone Bay Quilter's Guild, our 23rd year as a Guild. It is the year of our bi-annual quilt show which is held in conjunction with the Scarecrow Festival in Mahone Bay. The dates for our show are Friday October 3-Sunday October 5. Details can be found here. There will be lots going on!

Sept'14-14

Marija helping Laurie with her beading project for her "Halifax Expolsion Memorial Quilt" project (more on that later).

Our September meeting was wonderful, I think we have officially broken an attendance record with 86 people there. We had 82 members, 2 new members (welcome!) and 2 guests. Laurie brought Marija, one of the NSCAD artists in residence from Lunenburg who is very interested in quilting. We hope she will come back to more meetings!

Sept'14-15

There were two fundraisiers going on for one of our members who is battling pancreatic cancer, thanks to everyone for their very kind support, over$400 was raised. Thanks to Sandy who donated $5 form the sale of each of her "cupcake" hats and to Leverne, Valerie and Sheila who put together a wonderful raffle. Several members went home very happy!

There was lots to do, updates on the quilt show and workshops.

Sept'14-19

Great challenges!

It was wonderful to see such a terrific response to our Guild Challenge. So far 24 have been turned in, all made to the theme "Music to My Ears", the creativity and thought that went into each one was amazing. Can't wait to see them all together at the quilt show.

Set'14-35LJ

Lynn's favourite quilt.

We had a wonderful program "Meet the Quilters" with Lynn Jones and Linda Naugler. Each quilter talked about what brought her to quilting and they brought examples of quilts they had made over the years. Both have a terrific sense of humour which made for a wonderful evening with lots of laughs!

Sept'14-40LN

Linda's beautiful quilt Tuscan Village.

I must apologize for the quality of the pictures, my regular camera wasn't working so I had to use my iPhone!

Next up the quilt show, then our October meeting on October 6!
