Almost 60 members of our Guild, along with other quilters and friends from the Mariners Quilt Guild (Dartmouth) and the Mayflower Quilt Guild came together at Saint Mary's University to hear Kaffe Fassett present his lecture  "Glorious Colour" and glorious it was! Many thanks to those who brought their quilts to display in the lecture theatre, they certainly added colour to the lecture hall.

Thanks to Suttles and Seawinds who brought in bolts of his fabrics along with fat quarter packs and more, thanks to the SMU Bookstore who brought in Kaffe's 3 latest quilt books and thanks to everyone who donated some pretty terrific door prizes!

Kaffe talked about his life, his travels and his inspirations for colour, all of which shows up in his fabrics, his needlepoint and knitting and his quilts and more recently in his hooked rugs. Many who were there had known of Kaffe's work and his designs for many years and were thrilled to meet him and hear him speak.

There is a wonderful exhibition of his life and his work at the American Museum in Bath, England, It is on until November 14, 2015. You can see some of it here. As Kaffe wrote

This is the grandest show of my career – every item is part of an intricate opera of colour. I have always wanted this approach to my work, but other museum designers and curators have steered me to a rather mixed approach in my exhibitions.

This show is so unique to me because it explains in a visceral way my growing obsession with the power of colour. My hope and conviction is that this exhibition at the American Museum in Britain will show the grey and beige clad young the sensual thrill of pure colour. I still feel vital! I want my message to come across in this mood altering show – I’m flying high on colour.

This show is closer to my desires than ever before in my many, many presentations around the world.

Heather thanks Kaffe and Brandon.

See more pictures here. Much of Kaffe's lecture was based on his slides and pictures of slides just do not do the images justice. Buy his books, they are wonderful!

The committee who organized this event worked really well together and all without a meeting! I did have over 150 emails to delete when all was said and done though! Many thanks to Jackie, Anja, Colleen, Karen and Heather. It was a pleasure to work with all of you. Let's do it again soon!

A lovely write-up, Barb. We left that lecture hall feeling very good about colour . . . actually loving it!
