November 2014 Meeting

By 8 November 2013Meetings, Workshops

We had a pretty full hall last Monday for our November meeting. We kept having to add more chairs! In total we had 76 members and 4 new members for a total of 80 out to the meeting. I think that might be a record. Great turnout especially as we had Heather Stewart visiting us from Grand Bend, ON. Heather gave 2 workshops, "Colour for Stash Quilters" and "Fireside Log Cabin" plus her "Tips and Tricks" lecture and mini trunk show. I think everyone went home having learned a lot.

As always Heather's workshops are relaxed and easy for everyone. We all made colour studies from a magazine photograph. It sure was hard work to get all the values of colours in each photograph. But we persevered and everyone had 2 studies done by the end of the day. Thanks to everyone for sharing fabric squares, Heather too shared alot so we could find just the right piece.

The second workshop was full of tips for cutting and sewing our log cabin blocks. It was great to see them progress. Everyone got at least 4 sewn, some a few more.

I have continued to sew mine and have 9 done so far. I am sure we will see a lot of these quilts completed in the coming months. The colour choices were all so different.

Many thanks Heather! We all look forward to another visit soon!

Our show and tell was once again wonderful! Everyone is producing such great quilts. Thanks for bringing them in to share. Be sure and see lots more in our Flickr Photostream as well as pictures from Heather's workshops.

Linda's Tuscan Village is beautifully embellished with hand embroidery and beautifully quilted by Donna Hazelton.

Plans are well underway for our 2014 Quilt Show in conjunction with the Mahone Bay Scarecrow Festival. We have a full committee and thanks to Diane MacMillan we have a beautiful log cabin quilt to raffle. All the challenge quilts have been sold so let's see all 34 come back in for the Silent Auction in support of Christmas Daddies.

We are all looking forward to our annual Christmas Pot Luck dinner and party on Monday December 2. Watch your email for details coming soon.
