October 2013 Guild Meeting

What a wonderful turnout to our October Guild meeting. I am not sure if it is a record but we had 73 members, 2 new members plus 2 guests join us for a delightful program presented by doll artist Margi Hennen. Not only does Margi create wonderful dolls, they all come with a great story and in some cases a message. Be sure and visit Margi's website here to see her dolls.

Margi talking about her dolls – the greens just happened to be sitting in front of me! You can read more about Margi here on Exploring Creativity.

At the meeting our new raffle quilt was unveiled and what a beauty it is. Donated by Diane MacMillan, it was machine pieced by Diane and hand quilted by the Bay Buddies Bee. Thanks everyone for another beautiful quilt! Tickets will be available at the next meeting and the draw will be at our 2014 Quilt Show.

Beautifully pieced and quilted! by my calculations there are over 2500 pieces in this quilt.

We had a wonderful show and tell. There wasn't much hung up on our wall but when it came time to do show and tell the line formed and we were treated to some pretty spectacular quilts, wall hangings and table runners. Everyone has been so productive.

Everyone was quite intrigued with Linda MacDonald's quilt "Reflections of Lilies". The source for this technique is Dragonlady Quilts.

Another intriguing quilt was Sandra Roch's "Popsicles". Sandra hand dyed the fabric using "ice dyeing" techniques. More about this tenique can be found here. She pieced the quilt using improvisational piecing.

I can't remember a workshop where more people actually finished their quilts than Linda Mills' "Star Surprise" workshop.

Oct27Johanna
Here is Johanna Rafuses quilt "Dragonfly Stars". Linda must be very proud of all her students who have completed their quilts!

I can't wait for the November meeting and another terrific show and tell! Well done everyone!
