April Meeting with Elaine Quehl

By 9 April 2013Meetings

The MBQG was delighted to bring Elaine Quehl to Mahone Bay for a 2 day workshop. She stayed on to do a one day workshop with the Mariner's Quilt Guild (Dartmouth) and then came back to Mahone Bay to do a trunk show and slide presentation.

We had pretty much a full house along with five guests. The hour and a half went by so fast as we were all mesmerized by Elaine's quilts, her machine quilting and her artistry. She shared her quilts and their stories with us with great ease, no one felt intimidated. She made us feel that we all could be artists, we just needed to stop hesitating and do it!

Elaine's use of colour combined with her exquisite approach to her design details made each quilt so special. I loved them all but I think my fgavourite was the sunflowers. They could have been painted! Her use of her own dyed fabrics combined with commercial fabrics and batiks made for some interesting combinations. I loved looking at the details up close and I loved the softness of her pieces. Despite the use of a lot of machine quilting and some fusibles the quilts were all soft to the touch and they just begged to be touched!
