Christine’s Harry Potter quilt

Cathie’s Double Irish Chain

The month of May has certainly gotten off to a busy start! Our meeting was May 7, followed by our first (but not last!) Guild Retreat at The Quarterdeck, followed by our 2nd annual new members tea! Pictures can be found in our Flickr Albums – May meeting show and tell here, Guild Retreat here and the New Members Tea here. Take the time to have a look! All three were wonderful!

Marilyn and Krista – which is better for applique? A lobster f0rk or an Appliquilt tool?

The May meeting was quite wonderful, they all are but at this one we had a big show and tell – 16 members shared 31 items! We were then treated to a wonderful program by our very own “Gadget Queens” Marilyn and Krista! We all learned a lot, we laughed a lot and I am sure several members have already been to the hardware store looking for those laser squares! Many thanks to both Marilyn and Krista. Watch for a list coming soon!

The view from our workshop room!

Debbie made great progress with her EQ project

The first ever Guild Retreat was held at The Quarterdeck at Summerville Beach. If you haven’t been there be sure and make the effort this summer, the beach is one of the prettiest in the province, I think someone said it is a mile long. Be sure and take time for a meal or snacks! The diningroom is quite wonderful.

The Villas where we stayed are great, well equipped with 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, livingroom/diningroom and a full kitchen plus a bbq! Our workshop space was all windows on one wall with a beautiful view looking out to Port Mouton Island. I am truly impressed with how much work everyone got done, quilts were started, quilts were finished. Quite a few were working on their EQ projects. There was always lots of chatting and laughter. The staff at the Quarterdeck was very helpful, we were the first quilters to have a Retreat there. Seventeen members went and there was room for a couple more. Many thanks to everyone who helped to organize the Retreat, brought food, helped in any way.

Christine’s beautiful tea service was shining again!

The second annual New Members Tea was a big success! This year we also included an invitation to our Life Members (those who turn 80 in a membership year no longer have to pay dues), it was nice to welcome them. We enjoyed a lovely assortment of sweets and delicious tea. This is quickly becoming a very special tradition, one I hope continues for many years.
