Ronald McDonald House Block Party – Canada’s Big Quilt Bee

Twenty members of our guild gathered at the hall yesterday to make slab blocks for the CQA quilt project to make quilts (1,000) for Ronald McDonald Houses across Canada. This is a project to celebrate Canada's 150th birthday and each block has a piece of commemorative fabric in it. These are some of the fabrics…

Many of us took pieces of the fabric home to make more blocks. We made over 70 yesterday. Hopefully more members will help out so we can send lots of blocks and quilts to CQA for distribution. We'd like to challenge other Nova Scotia guilds to get on board with this project and start sewing!

Mary is hard at work sewing the blocks based on Cheryl Arkison's Slab Blocks technique from her Missing U quilt pattern in her book Sunday Morning Quilts. Instructions for the slab blocks can be found here. It is a fun, quick block to sew, all the quilts made for this project are using Cheryl's slab blocks to make the quilts. There are more pictures on our Flickr site here. Thanks everyone for coming out to play, now go and make some more blocks!
