January 2015 Guild Meeting

The weather cooperated and we had a wonderful January meeting with 62 members in attendance, that is about half our membership! We had a quick meeting followed by show and tell and then a program with Susan Lilley, who did a trunk show and then Lynn talked about and showed us some new rulers. We are thrilled that  the Guild has decided to start a "Ruler Library"! We hope members will borrow them, try them out and then perhaps buy their own. There are so many rulers on the market now and it can be expensive to buy them to try them, so this is your chance. Try them and report back to the Guild what you liked or didn't like.

If you look closely you will see there is an opening/space between the pieced centre and the border. When it was finshed Susan felt it need a border but she had finished the edges, so she made a border the sewed it by hand to the centre leaving a space of about 1/2". Clever resolution!

Another of Susan's hand dyed quilts, machine pieced and hand  quilted.

Susan's quilts were wonderful, thank you for sharing them with us. She showed us her early quilts then took us on a quilter's journey through her years of exploring dyeing fabric using various methods. Susan highly recommended a book by Ann Johnston as well as her dvd (which is in our Guild library) by the same title. Ann's books and dvd can be ordered directly from her here. As well as sharing her quilts, Susan showed us many wonderful examples of fabric that she had dyed using many different techniques.

Show and tell was great, I am always amazed how much is shown in January!

Jan'15-13

Wanda's quilt for her granddaughter, machine quilted by Lynn.

Jan'15-10

Ann's jacket made in a workshop with Anna Davison.

Jan'15-6

Pam's quilt was made using this pattern as demonstrated by Jenny Doan  on the Missouri Star Quilt Company's YouTube site. It looks like a great, quick quilt that is fun to make. It is on my list for sure!

We have workshops coming up, "Sew In" days and of course our 15th Dessert Party (and workshops) on May 28 – 30th with Becky Goldsmith of "Piece 'O Cake" designs. Be sure and check out her website here. You will find links to her blog, books and patterns plus lessons (tutorials) that you can watch online.
