January 2014 Guild Meeting

By 9 January 2014Meetings, Members

Despite the efforts of Mother Nature we were able to have a Guild meeting last Monday night. It was a smaller than usual turnout  but with the iffy forecast and fog hanging around those who made it really enjoyed Val Hearder's presentation. Val spoke to us about her first tour she has lead to South Africa and she talked about this year's tour as well as she has one planned for 2015.

Val with one of her wallhangings, it is entirely stitched with embroidery floss!

A textile lover's delight that's for sure! A couple of our members went with her as well as local resident Linda Wiser. Both Linda W and Linda Finley brought some of the textiles they purchsed with them. Just a stunning array of wallhangings, panels, pillows and teddy bears and monkeys. A feast for the eyes. The embroidery was really quite exquisite, each piece was unique and stitched in great detail. It was obvious from Val's pictures and the work we saw that the women who made them took great pride in their work. Be sure and click through here to our Flickr page to see the pictures, I have put the textiles in a seperate set here.

I love this one that Linda brought home for her son (who is a chef at a fish restaurant in Toronto), note the upside down fish and the smiles on their faces!

Each group of women had their own style. I thought this one was amazing in its design.

As usual we had a wonderful show and tell. 3Jan14
