Cuddle Quilt Day 2014

By 26 January 2014Monthly meetings

CQ'14-20

After the nasty blizzards and weather we have been having this winter, there were many sighs of relief that the weather cooperated so we could go ahead with Cuddle Quilt Day 2014. This is a day when members of our guild come together with friends of members and other community minded sewers and quilters to make, tie and finish quilts for several charities in our community. We have lost track of just how many Cuddle Quilt days we have had but it must be close to 20. And who knows just how many quilts we have donated? It must be over 1,ooo now. Yesterday we completed 115 and counting. Several members will bring in quilts to the next couple of meetings to add to our numbers.

Our President, Cathy left her cozy home on her island and braved the elements to iron for us!

Members are tying a quilt – many hands make light work!

We have supported Harbour House (the women and children's shelter in Bridgewater), local nursing homes, the Veteran's Unit at Fisherman's Memorial Hospital, Ronald MacDonald House and the NICU at the IWK Children's Hospital in Halifax just to name a few. Our quilts range in size from tiny (24"sq. for the NICU) to queen size to lap quilts and wheelchair quilts. We try to accommodate the needs of everyone!

Valerie, Sheila and Leverne relax after a job well done!

All this can't be done without the help of many volunteers and donations. Many thanks to those who donated fabric, batting and backings, especially to Avonport Discount Fabrics, Trend Tex Fabrics and to those who wish to remain anonymous. A special huge thank you to our organizers who did a stellar job keeping us busy and working efficiently – Valerie, Sheila and Leverne. They were on the run all day making sure things ran smoothly and they always were smiling, happy to accommodate everyone's needs.
