August

This is my last instruction for this project. Feel free to continue adding whatever pleases you to achieve your desired size. For August, add a row or round that has circles – either in the fabric or added to your project with whatever technique you like.

If you’re participating in our project starting with an orphan block, it’s time to think about row 4.

JULY

For July, add a row or a full border of square-in-a-square blocks. There are several different interpretations, so do whichever pleases you. And.. because it’s July, add in a bit of Canadiana where you can. Maybe you can find a little maple leaf, or go for a red and white theme.

This is what mine looks like before I add the July row. I want a small quilt, so my pieces are little.

We had a lively gathering on Monday June 1, 2026, as we marked our Annual General Meeting and continued our 35th Anniversary celebrations.

A new slate of Executive members were elected. We welcome:

• • President, Tara Lynas
  • Vice President, Katie Chen
  • Secretary (for one year), Krista Garber
  • Membership, Peggy Langford

We’re also thrilled that Cheryl Borden will continue as Communications Chair for one more year.

We say goodbye to Annette Fralic, who has served as Vice, President and Past President and has been an extraordinary volunteer for the Guild. We also say thank you to Betty Learning, who has served as a wonderful Membership Chair, and Secretary Dawn Pritchard, a dedicated and flexible member of the team. President Nina Scott-Stoddart moves to the position of Past President.

Life memberships were awarded to Dianne Banks, Cathy Drummond, Beverly Drysdale, Linda Fanning, Linda Moodie and Carole Swim.

And Honourary Life Memberships were presented to Founding Members Valerie Hearder and Michele Stevens, to thank them for starting the Guild we love 35 years ago.

Volunteer of the year was awarded for the second time to Pina Wall, our tireless Workshop Chair, who is always first to volunteer for anything the Guild is involved in and always makes members feel welcome! Congratulations, Pina!

After Adjournment of the AGM, Didi presented a prize to Janet Joyce, who picked the winning name for our Open Sew Days, which will now be known as Sewcial Days!

A gorgeous spread of appetizers and cake was then enjoyed by all, catered by Lunenburg’s Hustle and Bustle Catering.

April

Start with an orphan block and add a row to it that includes stripes. It can be one on just one side or two or a full on border of your choice.

May

Add a border or partial border that includes HSTs – Half-square triangle blocks. Put them together in whatever configuration pleases you.

June

Add some words this month. Put them in the border or on your quilt top The words can be on the fabric or

added as applique, do whatever you like. Other artists sign their work on the front..just sayin’

This is mine so far. I’ll be looking for fabric with the words already there.

As my term as president of the Guild comes to an end, I’d like to announce my challenge to make blocks and assemble this new banner for the Guild to be hung at the Quilt Show in September.

The Guild has a lovely banner that was made 10 years ago to mark the 25th anniversary, so I thought it was an opportune time to make a new banner to coincide with our 35th.

Colours pulled from the Nova Scotia provincial flag, with the addition of a pale blue. Fabrics supplied and will be available at the April meeting and events and meetings during April and May.

Approx. 32” long and 64” wide

 

20 8” finished blocks (8.5” unfinished) – pieced by members

4 x – Our logo Ship block (each one in quilter’s arrangement of colours)
6 x – simple blocks: four patch, 9 patch, HST, rail fence
4 x – intermediate blocks: stars, hourglass, etc.
6 x – advanced blocks: curves, complicated piecing, etc. (Please note that these are not hard and fast categories — just pick the specific block you want or let me pick one

Each volunteer chooses block, chooses fabric from possibilities, sews and returns blocks by June meeting

Centre panel with machine-appliquéd letters — 3 – 5 volunteers take one word or phrase each affixed to white background and machine appliqué them – they are then assembled into the centre panel.

Assembly, quilting, binding: Some of us members would then get together, perhaps at June Open Sew or over the summer, and assemble the banner, sandwich it, quilt it and bind it with a hanging sleeve at the top.
