Upcoming Workshop with Karen Miller

By 25 July 2017Workshops

KarenMiller Butterfly

The workshop committee is excited to offer a two-day workshop event with Karen Miller. She gave a wonderful trunk show at a guild meeting a couple of years ago and has agreed to lead us through the processes involved in making this delightful fabric sculpture.

Other examples of her work can be found in the guild's online photo albums: https://www.flickr.com/photos/mbqg/albums/72157650199385383

Briefly, in Karen's words: Curiosity led me to try new ideas and techniques to make the best use of fabrics, yarns and other fibres to obtain my goal for that particular piece. This is what I will share with you in these workshops.

Day 1 – The bark: pleating, hand-stitching and felting. The slice of tree trunk will be manageable to complete in one day. She'll also supply information on making the base that supports the work.
Day 2 – Either a life-sized moth or butterfly to complete the piece. Note that Karen is developing a different insect for us, something simpler than this luna moth.

To make it easier for everyone, Karen is developing kits for each day of the workshop. Dates are October 27 and 28 for those interested.
Karen is a bubbly, energetic and interesting person. This will be great way to spend a couple of days with quilting friends. I'll have more information in late August / early September.
